Sam Dempster (coach of the week)

Durham College Varsity Baseball Head Coach, Sam Dempster has received an International Award from Major League Baseball. The 15-year veteran Lords Coach was awarded the Julio Puente Envoy International Coach Award by Major League Baseball at the American Baseball Coaches Association Conference recently in Orlando, Florida. For that very reason is why Sam Dempster has made the exception from athlete of the week to coach of the week. Congratulations Sam we are all proud of your major accomplishment.

Anthony Batchelor (for the second time)

Batchelor had another solid weekend all though his Lords did not win on Friday night. Batchelor finished Friday night’s game against the St. Lawrence Vikings with 35 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals and hit 5 three’s to end the game. In addition to the game on Friday he also was the men’s lone rep at the OCCA All-star game on Saturday. Batchelor started the game for the east and finished with 6 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Congratulations Anthony for the second time this season you are the Sports Riot athlete of the week.

Samantha McConnell

Helping the Lords women’s basketball team win their fourth game in a row against Algonquin Thunder last week. In that very game McConnell show what she was made of after bouncing back from a tough first half where she only had two points. She later went on a tear finishing with 16 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocked shots, and 5 steals. Because of her performance in this game she moved back to 2nd in the OCAA in scoring with 20.67 ppg. Congratulations Samantha for being this week’s athlete of the week.
